Peruvian Sweets, Healthy Treats, & Vietnamese Eats

Looking for Houston bites that satisfy your sweet tooth, curb your waistline, and warm your belly? I got you covered with my latest Houston Bites roundup of Peruvian sweets, healthy treats, & Vietnamese eats!

Sweets By Belen, located off 59 and Hillcroft, recently celebrated their 1st year anniversary in November. It was a festive event complete with Korbel pink champagne, an array of Belen Bailey’s Peruvian treats, and waitstaff dressed in traditional Peruvian attire.

I absolutely love Belen’s story and her handmade authentic Peruvian desserts! Belen, an immigrant from Peru, worked as an 8th-grade Spanish teacher while she pursued her passion for creating gourmet sweets. Belen would make her pastries at home and sell her baked goods at farmers markets on the weekends. In November 2016, Belen took her passion to the next level and opened her first pastry shop.  Since then, Belen has blessed Houston with her authentic Peruvian sweets and has earned the title, the Alfajores Queen. They really are hands down the best alfajores in town!

Celebrate a birthday, anniversary or date night with the lucuma mini tart, mini cupcakes, pineapple-habanero macarons, and alfajores to satisfy your sweet tooth!

In November, I attended the Merry Muffins‘ Blogger Brunch where I met owner Laura Grinstead, a self-taught baker. She designed Merry Muffins with a mission to make healthy food taste delicious. Laura’s background in Nutrition, Chronic Disease, Integrated Mental Health, and Health Promotion from the University of Houston provided the insights to refine her baking. After years of using her home kitchen as the foundation for Merry Muffins, Laura opened her store in fall of 2017.

Merry Muffins, located in the Tanglewood Center, is a charming bake shop and offers a variety of healthy treats low in sugar, fat, sodium and calories. I sampled a few of Laura’s favorite signature muffins, wholesome protein balls, and savory quiches. I loved the portion sizes and nutritional content in Merry Muffins’ tasty offerings.

If you’re looking for a healthy alternative to take to your next social, surprise your friends with baked goods from Merry Muffins!

Local Pho, in the Sawyer Heights area, is a great place to grab a quick bite of locally sourced, fresh Vietnamese food. I love the location with a downtown view that’s perfect to enjoy a bowl of the beef pho on the outdoor patio! The space is super cute and modern with plenty of seating.

Local Pho specializes in beef, chicken, and vegetarian pho. However, you must pair your pho with the banh mi, egg rolls, or Vietnamese coffee because they are lip-smacking good!

Thank you, Sweets By Belen, Merry Muffins, and Local Pho for inviting me to your blogger events and allowing me to experience your tasty delights! I look forward to returning to your establishments with my friends and family soon!

Taste and See Life friends, go try these fabulous new eateries for yourself and let me know what you think!
